The Age of Innocence, 1993

I love a great love story. It’s one of the reasons I watch movies.

Unfortunately, most people make the wrong decisions and call it “love.” Why do they make the wrong decisions? Why do they call it love when it’s not? This film helps explain why.

Some things never change. Even 150+ years later. Other things have changed so much you cannot recognize them.

The lack mind set has always plagued everything.

Watching The Age of Innocence again, I was reminded of the fact that people are very good at lying to themselves. I don’t know what men and women do anymore, or what they want. We don’t even know which is which. We don’t have a passion for either (which is to say, a passion for living and feeling), and neither has a passion for the other anymore.

The movie is so beautifully made. Seeing it again made me think of Barthes’ A Lover’s Discourse being put to film.
